Supporting South Africa’s Future Engineers on the Global Stage
Team RollingStones, a South African youth robotics team from the BrickHeads community robotics club, has qualified to compete at the FIRST LEGO League World Championship in Houston in 2026. This page shares a sponsorship proposal supporting the team’s journey to represent South Africa on the global stage.
The team achieved a remarkable victory at the 2025 FIRST LEGO League South African National Championships, securing first place against 72 teams nationwide. Their achievement earned them an invitation to one of the world’s most prestigious youth STEM competitions, where only 200 teams from across the globe are selected to participate.
What makes this accomplishment particularly noteworthy is the team’s background. Originating from a small, underfunded community club, Team RollingStones has demonstrated exceptional innovation, discipline, and resilience—highlighting what is possible when talent and determination are nurtured, even in resource-constrained environments.
The sponsorship proposal outlines an opportunity for organisations, companies, and individuals to support the team’s journey to the United States. Funding will contribute toward travel, accommodation, competition fees, and essential equipment, helping ensure these young engineers can compete on an international stage.
Supporting initiatives such as this plays an important role in developing South Africa’s future engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers, while encouraging greater participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
