At the recent Mining Indaba, hosted in Cape Town from 9–12 February, AmCham South Africa participated as a guest where Strategic Ground: Strengthening America’s Security, Prosperity, and Leadership through U.S.–Africa Critical Mineral Partnerships was shared. The white paper was produced by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-Africa Business Center.
The paper examines the growing strategic importance of Africa in global critical mineral supply chains and outlines the role of U.S.–Africa partnerships in supporting resilient, transparent, and diversified mineral sourcing. It also highlights opportunities to advance industrial development and value addition across the continent.
The paper explores:
Africa’s central role in global critical mineral security
Key challenges affecting investment, infrastructure, governance, and value addition
Policy and commercial recommendations to strengthen U.S.–Africa cooperation
Opportunities for sustainable development, skills development, and responsible mining practices
As demand for critical minerals accelerates—driven by the energy transition, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technologies—this paper offers timely insights for policymakers, investors, and businesses operating across the mining and minerals value chain.
